Environmental Management System Certification
Since L’Erbolario was founded, we have taken a proactive approach to optimising our processes and maximising production efficiency, aiming to reduce resource and energy consumption while progressively increasing the use of renewable energy to power our facilities.
Our commitment to minimising the environmental impact of our activities is demonstrated by our voluntary adoption of the ISO 14001 standard, for which we have been certified since 2002 (Certificate No. CERT-497-2002-AE-MIL-SINCERT).

Electricity from renewable sources
LifeGate Energy is a company that supplies businesses and individuals exclusively with 100% renewable electricity, certified by a Guarantee of Origin (GO) in accordance with European Directive 2009/28/EC and managed by the Electricity System Operator (GSE). Our production site and Logistics Hub are powered entirely by renewable electricity, some generated in-house and some purchased with Guarantees of Origin certifying their renewable source. Solar energy is a cornerstone of our strategy: our solar installation, first commissioned in 2017, was expanded in 2023, raising its capacity from 977 kWp to 1,677 kWp.
Some of the electricity generated is used on site, while any surplus is fed into the grid.
Paper from responsibly managed sources
The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is an international organisation supporting proper, responsible management of forest resources worldwide.
All of our paper products (packaging, calendars, diaries, brochures and leaflets) are made exclusively from certified paper from responsibly managed sources. We were among the first Italian cosmetics companies to display the prestigious Forest Stewardship Council® mark.
The LAV – Anti-Vivisection League Certification
We adhere to the international Leaping Bunny standard, developed and endorsed by leading animal protection organisations in Europe and the United States. The standard requires participating companies to commit to using only raw materials that comply with its requirements. For this reason, ICEA (Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification) carefully reviews the documentation for every raw material used in our formulas and certifies L’Erbolario on behalf of LAV (the Italian Anti-Vivisection League).
ICEA Certification for Organic Farming (Certificate No. IT-BIO-006.380-0069483.2024.001)
All the medicinal herbs, ornamental plants, fruit and vegetables grown at L’Erbolario’s botanical garden and in the surrounding farmland and woodland are cultivated in accordance with strict organic farming rules. These activities have been certified organic by the Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification (ICEA) since 2005.
COSMOS-Organic Certification
Our Hemp product line has been awarded the COSMOS-ORGANIC ‘organic’ certification by the Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification (ICEA).
Good Manufacturing Practice
All our phytocosmetics are manufactured and quality-controlled in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines. The purpose of this standard is to establish guidelines for the production, control, storage and shipment of cosmetic products, with the aim of ensuring high safety and hygiene standards for consumers. We have held GMP certification in accordance with ISO 22716 since 2013 (Certificate No. 139201-2013-AQ-ITA-DNV).
